The University Information Technology Services (UITS) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) has demonstrated newly developed website themes and outlined plans to migrate official university websites to Drupal 11.
The session, held at the Gardener Conference Room at the Great Hall, brought together provosts, faculty deans, college registrars, heads of academic departments and content managers from across the university.
The demonstration introduced standardised Drupal website themes designed for colleges, faculties and academic departments, alongside a content update framework aimed at ensuring official websites are populated with relevant and up-to-date information.
UITS said the initiative forms part of the university’s broader strategy to strengthen its digital presence and improve consistency across institutional web platforms.
Principal ICT Assistant at UITS, Henry Offei Kojo Hall, guided participants through the features and functionalities of the new themes, highlighting enhanced customisation options and improved user experience.
“The new themes provide a unified institutional look while allowing units some flexibility to customise their pages,” Hall said. “Migrating to Drupal 11 also positions the university on a more secure and scalable platform.”
He added that the migration would enhance performance, streamline content management and align university websites with current web standards.
Mr. Emmanuel Kwasi Debrah, Head of Digital Media, addressed participants on the fundamentals of news writing and digital storytelling for institutional platforms. He emphasised the importance of timely event coverage and the strategic use of high-quality photographs.
He drew a distinction between institutional communication and journalism, urging content managers to approach university websites as dynamic communication tools.
The session concluded with discussions on implementation timelines and coordination between UITS and academic units to ensure a smooth transition to Drupal 11.
